EA is releasing Command & Conquer: Remastered"s source code at launch

Image
When Command & Conquer: Remastered Collection launches next month, it’ll arrive with a lovely little gift for the modding community. This week, EA announced that the full source code for both Command & Conquer and Red Alert will be freely accessible at launch, giving modders the groundwork to go wild creating whatever they’d like – up to and including giant tanks that punt nukes out of their big ol’ guns. Posting on Reddit and the Command & Conquer site this week, producer Jim Vessella laid out plans for Remaster’s modded future. There’ll be a nice new map editor, sure, but Vessella also revealed that both TiberianDawn.dll and RedAlert.dll (and the source code for their respective games) will be fully accessible to budding modders on release. “It’s worth noting this initiative is the direct result of a collaboration between some of the community council members and our teams at EA,” said Vessella. “After discussing with the council members, we made the decision to go with

Destiny 2"s Titanic disaster rumours seems to be fake

One weirdly persistent Destiny 2 fan theory is that Bungie are planning to fully obliterate and remove one of the MMOFPS’s areas, the Saturnian moon of Titan. It’ll be a dramatic show of force from the Darkness sweeping through the solar system, so the story goes. There is no real evidence to support this but I’ve seen some folks start repeating it as a given. Internet, eh? At this point, I don’t believe it. And yet… just in case, I have been spending a little more time on Titan. It is one of my favourite destinations, an alien waterworld where humanity once lived in great arcologies. Let me show you some favourite spots! For all its spaceships and rayguns, Destiny is post-apocalyptic, with humanity still barely holding on centuries after a cataclysmic chain of kickings from assorted aliens. Of anywhere in Destiny 2, Titan best shows what humanity had achieved in our ‘Golden Age’. Upon visiting Saturn’s moon of Titan, we found methane oceans crackling with energy and thought “Yeah, let

Overwatch"s fourth Anniversary event has some of the best skins yet

Image
There are so many games celebrating birthdays this week! The Witcher 3 turned five, Red Dead Redemption turned 10, and now Overwatch is celebrating its fourth year. For Overwatch it means its Anniversary event has kicked off once more, and from now until June 19th you’ll be able to replay all the old seasonal Brawls and grab a whole host of new cosmetic items. And I have to say, this year’s skins are particularly good. First up we have Masquerade Reaper, as you can see above. Some fans might recognise that one from the comic a couple years ago where the Talon folks infiltrate a fancy masquerade ball. Then we’ve got these absolute gems below – Little Red Ashe (and Wolf Bob!), Submarine Hammond (get a load of that moustache), Dragoon Mercy and Huitzilopochtli Zenyatta. You’ll be able to get all of these through event loot boxes (which you can either earn or purchase), or by buying them with your hard-earned credits. These aren’t the only skins up for grabs though, because during the Ann

Have You Played… Gris?

Image
Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time… Take one look at Gris and you’d probably think it was a dainty, delicate flower of a game. Yes, it’s a story that’s ultimately about grief and loss and all those other fragile, angsty emotions that are apparently exclusive to young women, but I put it to you that Gris is actually an absolute bruiser of a platformer, one that slaps you round the face with its good looks and doesn’t even bother to apologise for it. And I absolutely dig it. I must admit, I’d been wary about giving Gris a go given how the rest of the RPS team reacted to it around the time of its release . But when it popped up on Xbox Game Pass a couple of months ago, I thought there was really no reason why I shouldn’t play it myself and make up my own mind about it. And I’m so glad I did! Yes, Gris’ emotional journey might be a bit hackneyed, but it really wasn’t as bad or as obvious as I thought it was going to

Test-drive Star Citizen"s ships in a free trial event this week

Image
It is time, once again, to take a wee trip into outer space. From Friday, May 22nd ’til June 1st, interstellar sandbox and crowdfunding purgatory Star Citizen is doing another free fly week – letting you get behind the controls of Star Citizen’s roster of big expensive computer spaceships as part of the in-universe Invictus Launch Week festival. Is it really a hard sci-fi space sim if you’re not cheering on the imperial might of an anthropocentric star empire? It’s Invictus Launch week in Star Citizen next Friday, which means it’s time for airshows, massive parties, and free access to a selection from Star Citizen’s big space garage. As outlined in the Invictus Launch Week guide, the free fly event will let you try out a range of ships, with different models and manufacturers rotating in and out every few days. Somewhat hilariously, there’s also a hologram room for ships too large or too not-quite-finished to make it into the show. The pricetag on some of these ships can get prett

Gamers Want Awesome Gifts Too

Gifts for Gamers Gamers Want Awesome Gifts Too Today I will be giving you some insights on the things you have to keep in mind when searching for that perfect gift for the gamer in your life. Gaming is becoming increasingly popular and considering a gift is sometimes ignored because you are just too confused about what is good and what is not. Gaming these days is not just for kids, many of our husbands, wives and kids are gamers now so naturally a great gift idea would be some cool gaming gear and accessories. Especially considering that some serious gamers have entire gaming rooms which are setup to their own style and preferences. However deciding on what to get can be a daunting task. A gift in most cases is meant to be a surprise, so how do you decide on which gear and accessories to get for their gaming room or setup? Asking them is out of the question because it just ruins the surprise and no one wants that. Today I will try and arm you with the tools
